Consultant Ecologists

We have extensive UK wide experience of small and large scale schemes requiring ecological assessments. We are particularly skilled in negotiating with LPAs, and statutory and non-statutory nature conservation agencies in respect of progressing ecological issues within the planning system.
Our in house ecologists hold survey and development licences for bats, great crested newts, white-clawed crayfish, natterjack toad and sand lizard. We have extensive experience of the licensing system and dealing with complex and large scale development schemes which impact upon protected species.
We have extensive experience of developing and implementing ecological mitigation. The key to the success of ecological mitigation is to ensure that it is developed in collaboration with technical specialists to ensure that solutions are practical and will work 'on the ground'.
Phase 1 habitat surveys can not be undertaken without a sound botanical background. This is becoming significant with the increasing consideration for UK BAP Habitats (Habitats of Principal Importance in England under S41 NERC 2006). We have extensive experience of botanical survey work throughout the UK, and have undertaken large scale detailed vegetation surveys and MapInfo GIS contracts for Natural England.

Bowland Ecology technical staff include full members of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (www.ieem.net) and Chartered Environmentalists (www.socenv.org.uk). As a business we adhere to the codes of professional conduct of these professional bodies and promote their sustainable environmental objectives.

We have long standing relationships with key associates and clients can feel assured that we have the experience to know when to bring in the right specialist to provide project support.

Our vision is not to be the ‘biggest’ or ‘fastest growing’ but to be recognised and respected as a high quality practice. To achieve this project work is allocated to technical staff with the appropriate skills and experience to undertake the work.

Our style is to be initiative driven: we adopt a ‘can do’ attitude to our clients’ requests and continually strive to improve our levels of technical and professional service.
