Bowland Fells Peatland Condition Assessment Surveys

Bowland Ecology was commissioned by United Utilities to complete surveys of approximately 6,500 ha of the Bowland Fells, Lancashire, England, undertaken during 2021/2022. Surveys included NVC, condition assessment (using JNCC CSM for Upland Habitats guidance) of blanket bog, dry heath and wet heath habitats, peat depth surveys and peatland restoration recommendations.  Outputs included plans showing NVC habitats, peat depth, sphagnum presence, erosion/ negative management features and restoration options at a variety of scales, together with reports detailing methodology, results and condition assessment.
