Bowland Ecology undertook detailed habitat and botanical surveys of 42 District Wildlife Sites across
the borough of Blackburn with Darwen in Summer 2022, totalling ~340ha. The purpose of the study
was to provide a robust evidence base for the emerging Local Plan (2021-2037), help inform the development of a Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) and support opportunities to deliver biodiversity net gain (BNG).
Subsequently, detailed Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans were compiled for eight of the DWSs, in addition to a number of other shortlisted green spaces across the borough.
