Following a mini competition for Framework Consultants, BE were appointed lead ecologists for the majority of ecological survey from Westmorland to the Ribble Valley, in respect of the proposed Haweswater Aqueduct – EIA and Site Investigation Stage for Major Infrastructure Project (United Utilities – HARP (harpinformation.co.uk)). The 110km route was split into 6 sections (T01-T06), BE undertook the full scope of ecological survey for T01-T04).  Bowland Ecology initially undertook detailed ecological surveys between 2019-2021 with further surveys conducted in 2022 and 2023. Surveys involved phase 1, NVC, breeding and wintering birds, protected species (GCN, water vole, otter, badger, bats including tree climbing), MoRPh surveys, reptiles and crayfish. We developed a bespoke field tool to translate phase 1 and NVC survey data for use in Ground Water Dependent Terrestrial Ecosystem Assessment; example output:
